Have you experienced water scarcity in rural Scotland?

Share your experiences of water scarcity with us!

We’re asking communities to send us materials that tell stories of life when water supplies run low, dry up, or become unusable. From these stories, we will create digital postcards to share with planners and the wider public.

You can send us video, photos, text, or even voice notes, using the submission methods below. We will edit your submission into a digital postcard format for our website and events.

How to Create your Postcard…

You can email or text us any experiences of water scarcity in the form of written stories and accounts, or even drawings and artwork.

Send us a voice note on WhatsApp telling us your experiences of water scarcity where you live.

You can submit photographs of water scarcity issues. These could include evidence of dry weather, broken infrastructure or pollution.

You can also submit videos by email or WhatsApp highlighting issues of water scarcity in your area.

Your final digital postcard will appear as a video or picture on one side and a voice note or text on the other. An example is provided below…

All nineteen properties in our village are dependent on small private water supplies. The source of the supplies is a mixture of small burns and seepages from the hill. My neighbour’s supply is from a small seepage which regularly runs dry.  When this happens, we have a system where I top up her tanks from my own pipeline. I have been trying for 20 years to get a public mains supply to the village but have so far been unsuccessful.

Typically we will include your first name and the Scottish region (or international region if you are submitting as part of the Islands Water Congress) on your postcard. If you prefer you can request that we don’t use your name.

If you are sending multiple files, please label them so we know who they belong to.

Also, please include your contact details so we can keep in touch about your submission. More information about the project and how your submissions will be used can be found on our FAQ page.
